Recipe for Royal Cuisine, "Royal Kitchen in the Corner of a Room"

 


What is <Royal Kitchen in the Corner of a Room>?

<Royal Kitchen in the Corner of a Room> is a non-face-to-face program of the World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong X Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, which you can enjoy at home through a guide video and a meal kit based on the Wonhaeng Eulmyojeongri Uigwe. This program was so popular that all the prepared meal kits were completely sold out.

You could experience five kinds of royal cuisine: Saeng Bok Mandu Tang, Sunjojeon, Nogdu Jang Eum Japchae, Yuja Hwachae, and Baegdu Jeomjeungbyeong with the ingredients that where prepared in advance and sold in a form of a meal kit. The advantage of <Royal Kitchen in the Corner of a Room> is that you can cook royal cuisine that is not easily available at home~!!

Even if you don't have a meal kit, you can try to cook the meals at home through a video on YouTube from the Suwon Cultural Foundation.


You can find the recipes of <Royal Kitchen in the Corner of a Room> on the YouTube channel of the Suwon Cultural Foundation. Royal Cuisine Expert Mr. Jong-Yeon Lim (Important Intangible Cultural Property No. 38, who has studied royal cuisine of the Joseon Dynasty) kindly taught us how to cook them. All recipes in the video belong to the [Sura Ilgi] of the Royal Court Food Research Council. As it is the food that King Jeongjo the Great and Crown Princess Hong ate as ‘*Sura’, please experience the royal meal by imagining our kitchen as a royal kitchen!’

*Sura is a meal for royal family.

Suwon Hwaseong EP ‘Episode in Hwaseong’ Introduction of selected episodes.

 


The first story of the Suwon Hwaseong Episode (EP), an online specialized program hosted by the World Heritage Festival Suwon Hwaseong x Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, ‘Tell me your episode! Episode In Hwaseong' has ended.

This 'Episode In Hwaseong' event collects all the memories we had with Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. This event is an event where we select fun, fresh, or touching contents from among the shared content and give generous gifts.

In the 'Episode In Hwaseong' event, which you can participate in until 23:00 on Sunday, October 24, a total of 9 winners will receive a Cuckoo humidifier, King Jeongjo key ring, and Suwon Hwaseong Coloring Book.


A lot of people participated in themes of various categories,

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress architecture, family/friends, and walks.

In this post, we’ll introduce the stories and photos of the winners.


Selected in three distinct categories. We will introduce the selected works from the three categories divided into ‘History is alive award’, ‘Warm story award’, and ‘You are the writer award’.



 

<History is alive> Award

First one is <History is alive> award. Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, which has been with us for hundreds of years, how much history does Suwon Hwaseong Fortress have!

The <History is Alive> award is awarded to two people who have captured the history of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress with photos and meaningful content in the Suwon Hwaseong EP.

We introduce selected works that meaningfully capture the appearance of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress along with traces of history.


Korea, China, Japan East Asia and Joseon's King Jeongjo' by Chae Su-eun'




You are a young historian of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress! <Korea, China, Japan East Asia and Joseon's King Jeongjo> by Chae Su-eun.

Chae Su-eun, who selected the family/friend category, introduced Hwaseong Fortress to foreign friends who studied together in graduate school.

In the photo posted by Chae Su-eun, we can see three Korean, Japanese, and Chinese friends standing side by side on the stone steps of 'Hwaseomun’. She introduced Suwon Hwaseong Fortress to her friends who were studying in graduate school, especially those in Northeast Asia, who share many historical backgrounds, and held a historical/cultural discussion there. You are the historian and diplomat of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress~!!

Wanja, who chose the walking category, shared a poem by Jeong Yak-yong that matches the scenery of ' Dongbukgporu’. Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is more meaningful by writing a good poem together.

‘Inbul-yeom-isil-wi (Lost a government position because lack of integrity)’ Jeong Yak-yong, a Silhak scholar with deep ties to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress. And Wanja, looking at the peaceful and quietly of Dongbukgporu, remembered the Jeong Yak-yong. We dream of a world where people who are humble and honest like the two of you are more beneficial.



<Warm story> Award

Next is <Warm story> award. Many people spent time with Suwon Hwaseong and shared it with Suwon Hwaseong EP.

We’ll select 4 people who shared the warm stories in their memories with Suwon Hwaseong Fortress and give them the <Warm story> award.

These are selected works that will make you smile when you look at the stories and photos.

It is so beautiful to see a family looking at each other with loving eyes. We expected that the appearance of mother and father reflected in the eyes of the child at that time, and the appearance of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, would have been like this photo. The child's small hand slightly obscured the camera angle, but that clumsy picture makes us smile. I look forward to seeing more and more photos taken by children growing up little by little. :)
